1A port and naval base in northwestern France, on the Atlantic coast of Brittany; population 148,316 (2006).
2A river port and industrial city in Belarus, close to the border with Poland; population 318,000 (est. 2009). The peace treaty between Germany and Russia was signed here in March 1918. Former name (until 1921) Brest-Litovsk. Polish name Brześć nad Bugiem.
