1.1 François ( 1907–71), president 1957–71; known as Papa Doc. His regime was noted for its oppressive nature.
1.2 Jean-Claude ( 1951-), son of François; known as Baby Doc. He succeeded to his father’s presidency in 1971 but was overthrown by a mass uprising in 1986.
