- (1943–70), US rock and blues singer. She became a vocalist with Big Brother and the Holding Company, and gave a raw, powerful performance at the Monterey pop festival in 1967. She died from a heroin overdose just before her most successful album, Pearl, and her number-one single “Me and Bobby McGee” were released in 1970.
