  • (1929-), US pop artist and sculptor; born in Sweden; full name Claes Thure Oldenburg. During the 1960s, he conducted “happenings, ” participatory art events such as Autobodys (1964), in which he used actual cars and crowds of people. He later worked with soft materials and foam rubber to create soft sculptures of everyday objects.
