( 1900–90), Indian politician and diplomat, sister of Jawaharlal Nehru; full name Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit. Having been imprisoned three times by the British for nationalist activities, after independence she became the first woman to serve as president of the UN General Assembly (1953–54).
