Definition of Piranesi, Giovanni Battista in English:

( 1720–78), Italian engraver. He is known for his dramatically conceived etchings of the buildings of Rome, in which the altered scale adds to their grandeur; he also produced an influential series of etchings of imagined and fantastical prisons, Carceri d’Invenzioni (1745–61).
