( 1905–90), English film director, producer, and scriptwriter; full name Michael Latham Powell. He founded The Archers Company with the Hungarian scriptwriter Emeric Pressburger (1902–88); their films included A Matter of Life and Death (1946) and The Red Shoes (1948).
