( 1932–2009), US novelist, poet, and short-story writer; full name John Hoyer Updike. He is noted for his quartet of novels Rabbit, Run (1960), Rabbit Redux (1971), Rabbit is Rich (1981), and Rabbit at Rest (1990), the last two earning him Pulitzer Prizes. Other novels include The Witches of Eastwick (1984) and S (1998).
