Entry from British & World English dictionary

Definition of Velvet Underground in English:

A US rock group formed in 1965, unsuccessful in the 1960s but extremely influential since their dissolution and probably best known for their first album, The Velvet Underground and Nico (1967), produced in association with Andy Warhol. The backing to the songs of vocalist Lou Reed (1944–2013) displayed the avant-garde influences of classically trained viola player John Cale (b.1942).
