( 1954-), US television talk-show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. In 1984, she started as a talk-show host on A.M. Chicago, which evolved into the nationally televised Oprah Winfrey Show (1986–2011). She also played Sofia in the movie The Color Purple (1985), began publishing O magazine in 2000, and launched the OWN television network in 2011.
