( 1896–1974), Soviet military leader, born in Russia; full name Georgi Konstantinovich Zhukov. During World War II, he defeated the Germans at Stalingrad in 1943, lifted the siege of Leningrad in 1944, and led the final assault on Germany and the capture of Berlin in 1945.
