Abkhazia

An autonomous territory in northwestern Georgia, south of the Caucasus mountains on the Black Sea; population 215,972 (2003); capital, Sokhumi. In 1992, Abkhazia unilaterally declared itself independent, sparking ongoing armed conflict with Georgia.
