Agassiz, Louis

Pronunciation: /ˈaɡəsē/
(1807–73), US zoologist, geologist, and paleontologist; born in Switzerland; full name Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz. In 1837, he was the first to propose that much of Europe had once been in the grip of an ice age.
