Definition of attacca in English:
A musical instruction used to indicate that the next section should follow without a pause.
- Pieces that belong to the same group are played attacca and form distinct musical entities based on their relation to each other.
- In his talk about Concerto No 2, he tells us that attacca joins to next movements are a great way to stop the audiences coughing ‘to prove to themselves that they are still alive’!
- I heard not a few gasps of shock from the audience as the pianist moved from near silence in lento to a sudden ferocity in attacca.
