1A Swiss family that produced many eminent mathematicians and scientists.
1.1 Jakob (1654–1705), a professor of mathematics; also known as Jacques or James Bernoulli. He made discoveries in calculus and contributed to geometry and the theory of probabilities.
1.2 Johann (1667–1748), the brother of Jakob; also known as Jean or John Bernoulli. He contributed to differential and integral calculus.
1.3 Daniel (1700–82), son of Johann. His greatest contributions were to hydrodynamics and mathematical physics.
