Burgoyne, John

Pronunciation: /ˈbərˌɡoin/ /bərˈɡoin/
(1722–92), English general and playwright; known as Gentleman Johnny. He surrendered to the Americans at Saratoga (1777) during the American Revolution. His plays include The Maid of the Oaks (1774) and The Heiress (1786).
