Caldwell, Erskine

Pronunciation: /ˈkôldˌwel/
(1903–87), US novelist and short-story writer; full name Erskine Preston Caldwell. Caldwell reproduced the dialect of the poor whites in his realistic, earthy, and popular novels. Notable works: Tobacco Road (1932) and God’s Little Acre (1933).
