The part of a letter that immediately precedes the writer’s signature, consisting of words such as Sincerely, Cordially, Very truly yours, etc.
Example sentences
  • If your letter is only one page, type the complimentary close and optional components as shown below.
  • Unfortunately, legends, headings, or complimentary closes in corners sometimes have to be trimmed off.
  • Usually, you type your name four lines below the complimentary close, and sign your name in between.
