A small tuned cymbal.
- Along with the chorus, there are four pianos, tympani, and a fascinating assortment of percussion instruments - xylophone, crotales, bell, snare drum, side drum, bass drum, tambourine, cymbals and triangle.
- The first movement's short ‘introduction’ is dominated by a characteristic ‘chiming’ texture, with crotales and celesta (and, later, alto flute, clarinet, violin and cello) outlining an added C major dominant seventh chord.
