Darrow, Clarence

(1857–1938), US lawyer; full name Clarence Seward Darrow. He served as defense counsel in several well-publicized trials, including that of John T. Scopes, a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, who was charged with violating state law for teaching evolution in a public school in 1925.
