Mobutu, Sese Seko

Pronunciation: /mōˈbo͞oto͞o/
(1930–97), Zairean statesman; president 1965–97; born Joseph-Désiré Mobutu. Seizing power in a military coup in 1965, he retained control despite opposition until 1997, when he was finally forced to stand down.
