1.1The capital of Parma; population 182,389 (2008). Founded by the Romans in 183 bc, it became a bishopric in the 9th century ad and capital of the duchy of Parma and Piacenza in about 1547. The city is associated with the production of Parma ham and Parmesan.
2A city in northeastern Ohio, south of Cleveland; population 77,947 (est. 2008).
