Petipa, Marius

Pronunciation: /ˈpetēˌpä/ /pətēˈpä/
(1818–1910), French ballet dancer and choreographer, resident in Russia from 1847; full name Marius Ivanovich Petipa. He choreographed more than 50 ballets, working with Tchaikovsky on Sleeping Beauty (1890) and The Nutcracker (1892).
