Definition of phantom pregnancy in English:
An abnormal condition in which signs of pregnancy such as amenorrhoea, nausea, and abdominal swelling are present in a woman who is not pregnant.
- Explains Joanne: ‘She was desperate to produce an heir to maintain the Catholic line and she wanted to have a child with her husband, but it wasn't a pregnancy - she had a kind of phantom pregnancy, some sort of growth.’
- From what i have read, in phantom pregnancies, hormone levels DO go up. Women who took a pregnancy test found that it returned a positive result.
- Phantom babies and phantom pregnancies are a common delusion among mentally ill homeless women.
