Definition of plough pan in English:
A compacted layer in cultivated soil resulting from repeated ploughing.
- The decline in cotton yields in the Sudan, has been partially attributed to deterioration in soil physical properties and the formation of a plough pan 20 cm deep as a result of the repeated use of the disc plough for land preparation.
- Plough pans are caused by the smearing action of disc ploughs continually operating at the same depth over a long period.
