Richelieu, Duc de

Pronunciation: /ˈriSHəlˌ(y)o͞o/
(1585–1642), French cardinal and statesman; born Armand Jean du Plessis; known as Cardinal Richelieu. He was chief minister to Louis XIII 1624–42 and established the Académie française in 1635.
