Selkirk, Alexander

Pronunciation: /ˈselˌkərk/
(1676–1721), Scottish sailor; also called Alexander Selcraig. His experiences on one of the uninhabited Juan Fernandez Islands formed the basis of Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe (1719).
