Sheridan, Richard Brinsley

Pronunciation: /ˈSHerədn/
(1751–1816), Irish playwright and politician. His plays are comedies of manners and include The Rivals (1775) and The School for Scandal (1777). In 1780, he entered Parliament, became a celebrated orator, and held senior government posts.
