Soyinka, Wole

(1934-), Nigerian playwright, novelist, and critic; full name Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka. His writing often uses satire to explore the contrast between traditional and modern society in Africa. Notable works: The Lion and the Jewel (1959) and The Interpreters (1965). Nobel Prize for Literature (1986).
