Stanley, Mount

A mountain in the Rwenzori range in central Africa, on the border between the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) and Uganda. Margherita Peak, which rises to 16,765 feet (5,110 m), is the third-highest mountain in Africa. African name Ngaliema, Mount.

Origin

Named after Sir Henry M. Stanley, the first European to reach it (1889).
