Stoppard, Sir Tom

(1937-), British playwright, born in Czechoslovakia; born Thomas Straussler. His best-known plays are comedies, often dealing with metaphysical and ethical questions. His Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (1966) is based on the characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
