A metal chain or reinforced rubber belt that drives the camshaft of an internal combustion engine. Also called timing belt.
- The water pump was knackered by a poorly replaced timing chain (I think).
- A timing belt or timing chain links the crankshaft to the camshaft so that the valves are in sync with the pistons.
