Waksman, Selman Abraham

Pronunciation: /ˈwäksmən/ /ˈwak-/
(1888–1973), US microbiologist, born in Russia. He discovered the antibiotic streptomycin for use especially against tuberculosis. Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine (1952).
