Weber, Max

Pronunciation: /ˈvābər/
(1864–1920), German economist and sociologist; regarded as one of the founders of modern sociology. In The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (1904–05), he argued that there is a direct relationship between the Protestant work ethic and the rise of capitalism.
