1.1 Charlotte ( 1816–55), author of Jane Eyre (1847), Shirley (1849), and Villette (1853).
1.2 Emily ( 1818–48), author of Wuthering Heights (1847); also a poet.
1.3 Anne ( 1820–49), author of Agnes Grey (1845) and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1847).

The three sisters (with their brother Branwell, 1817–48) grew up in the Yorkshire village of Haworth, and had limited experience of the outside world. Their works were published under the pseudonyms Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell
