( 1837–1921), US naturalist and author. At his home near the Hudson River at West Park, New York, he entertained friends such as John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt, and Walt Whitman. Among his works are Wake-Robin (1871), Locusts and Wild Honey (1879), and The Summit of the Years (1913).
