( 1869–1940), British Conservative statesman, Prime Minister 1937–40, son of Joseph Chamberlain; full name Arthur Neville Chamberlain. He pursued a policy of appeasement with Germany, signing the Munich Agreement (1938), but was forced to abandon this policy following Hitler’s invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1939.
