Definition of Hölderlin, Friedrich in English:

( 1770–1843), German poet; full name Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin. Most of his poems express a romantic yearning for harmony with nature and beauty. While working as a tutor he fell in love with his employer’s wife, who is portrayed in his novel Hyperion (1797-9).
