Definition of Montespan, Marquise de in English:

( 1641–1707), French noblewoman; born Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart. She was mistress of Louis XIV from 1667 to 1679, and had seven illegitimate children by him. She subsequently fell from favour when the king became attracted to the children’s governess, Madame de Maintenon.
