( 1779–1852), Irish poet and musician. He wrote patriotic and nostalgic songs set to Irish tunes, notably ‘The Harp that once through Tara’s Halls’ and ‘The Minstrel Boy’, and is also known for the oriental romance Lalla Rookh (1817).
