Definition of Ruhr in English:

A region of coal mining and heavy industry in North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany. It is named after the River Ruhr, which flows through it, meeting the Rhine near Duisburg. The Ruhr was occupied by French troops 1923-4, after Germany defaulted on war reparation payments.
