A group of small islands and coral reefs in the South China Sea, between Vietnam and Borneo. Dispersed over a distance of some 965 km (600 miles), the islands are variously claimed by China, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Also called Nansha Islands.
