A river in SE Europe, the longest tributary of the Danube, which rises in the Carpathian Mountains of western Ukraine and flows 960 km (600 miles) westwards into Hungary, then southwards, joining the Danube in Serbia north-west of Belgrade. Serbian name Tisa.
