Ayers Rock

Pronunciation: /ɛːz/
A red rock mass in Northern Territory, Australia, south-west of Alice Springs. The largest monolith in the world, it is 348 m (1,143 ft) high and about 9 km (6 miles) in circumference. Official name Uluru.

Origin

Named after Sir Henry Ayers, Premier of South Australia in 1872–3.
