Pronunciation: /ˈbeɪɡɪn/
(1913–92), Israeli statesman, prime minister 1977–83. His hard line on Arab-Israeli relations softened in a series of meetings with President Sadat of Egypt, which led to a peace treaty between the countries. Nobel Peace Prize (1978, shared with Sadat).
