(1893–1981), US army officer; full name Omar Nelson Bradley. As a general, he commanded the land contingent during the Normandy campaign of 1944–45. After World War II, he served as chief of staff of the US Army 1948–49 and chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff 1949–53.
