The name of a family of Italian painters comprising the brothers Annibale (1560–1609) and Agostino (1557–1602) and their cousin Ludovico (1555–1619). Together they established a teaching academy at Bologna, while Annibale became famed for his frescoes on the ceiling of the Farnese Gallery in Rome and for his invention of the caricature.
