1Relating to or denoting a period in the 4th and 3rd millennia bc, chiefly in the Near East and SE Europe, during which some weapons and tools were made of copper. This period was still largely Neolithic in character. Also called Eneolithic.
- There was a break in occupation, but the site was reoccupied in late Neolithic and Chalcolithic times.
- Communal feasting practices in Cyprus have a long pedigree, possibly stretching back into the Chalcolithic period, but were certainly established by the prehistoric Bronze Age.
- Prehistoric finds are to be found in the same building, in the Musée d' Histoire Naturelle et de Préhistoire, notably several statue-menhirs from the Chalcolithic period.
