A raised band encircling the body of oligochaete worms and some leeches, made up of reproductive segments.
- Differently sized partners were seen stretching or contracting their body between the genital region and the clitellum.
- The Polychaeta lack a clitellum and have parapodia, paddle-like appendages with numerous bristles or chaetae.
- A histological examination of the clitellum revealed that damage occurred to both male and female gonads.
