Cocos Islands

Pronunciation: /ˈkəʊkəs/
A group of twenty-seven small coral islands in the Indian Ocean, administered as an external territory of Australia since 1955; population 600 (est. 2009). The islands were discovered in 1609 by Captain William Keeling of the East India Company. Also called Keeling Islands.
